Held

He once held me like a single rose on a first date

All sweaty palms and nervous laughs and nodding

He once held me like a woman

All curves and heat and exploration

He once held me like a promise

All words and vows and dancing

He once held me like a credit card

In his back pocket, ready to use and accessible

He once held me like a buoy

like the waves didn't matter as long as he could hold on

He once held me like a time bomb

All ticking and waiting and wondering

He once held me like a lit match

All burn or be burned

He once held me like broken crystal

All dangerously sharp slivers and spilled wine

He once held me like an oath

To have and to hold, all over again
